Zarečki krov / The roof at Zarečje – A hidden gem in the heart of Istria

Just a few kilometers from the town of Pazin, there is a picturesque waterfall with a lake – Zarečki krov. It is one of the most beautiful natural phenomena of central Istria. This unique waterfall perfectly combines natural beauty, adventure activities and peaceful surroundings, making it an ideal destination for all nature and adrenaline lovers.

Zarečki krov is a natural waterfall on the Pazinčica river, which is created by water splashing over a wide limestone rock, creating a spectacular scene several meters high. Below the waterfall there is a natural pool with a depth of up to 10 meters, which during the summer months becomes a popular swimming spot for local residents and tourists, offering them refreshment and relaxation on hot summer days. The best time to visit is during spring and summer because that's when the water level is highest and the temperature is pleasant for swimming. During the summer months, the waterfall can dry up due to lack of rainfall

Zarečki krov is not merely a place where you can relax, in fact it offers also diverse activities for those in search of adventure.

• Swimming and diving: The deep basin under the waterfall is just perfect for swimming, and the very brave ones can even try diving off the cliffs.
• Hiking and cycling: The surroundings of Zarečki krov are rich in hiking and cycling tracks running through breathtaking landscapes of central Istria.  
• Climbing: In this area, there are numerous routes for climbing of different difficulties; more experienced climbers are interested in the Zmija (snake) climbing route, which includes climbing on the ceiling of the cave and is reputed to be the most difficult in Croatia.
• Picnicking: On the banks of the river there are several places ideal for a picnic, where visitors can enjoy a meal surrounded by nature. You can buy a refreshing drink for your picnic in a nearby facility that offers drinks and coffee.  

 

 

How to get there?

Zarečki krov can be easily reached from Pazin. Take the road to Zarečje and follow the directions to Parking Zarečki krov. The parking is just a short walk from the waterfall, on a path along the water.
