Tupljak, a settlement in the municipality of Pićan, is located in a flat area and is known for its mining. It is first mentioned in historical sources in the year 1325. The settlement is home to the single-nave parish church of Saint Bartholomew with a sacristy, built in the 15th century, according to tradition, the seat of the church of the same name from Goretin, mentioned in the Istrian Act of Donation. In the cemetery, there is the three-nave church of Saint Hadrian, built in 1796.
Here lies the last coal mine in Croatia, which ceased operation in 1999. Thus, after almost 400 years of mining, coal production in Istrian coal mines was officially terminated. Visitors can explore mining exhibits, the mining facility, and the mining administrative building in the area.
